Don’t make excuses. The same energy can be applied to make necessary changes. It is astonishing how many of us waste valuable time and energy focusing on the problem instead of the solution. It is very similar to focusing on an open wound and watching it bleed instead of finding a way to clean it and close it, to prevent further infection. The negativity of making excuses is an ongoing infection that will make you upset and unfit to deal with the actual challenge or problem that is right in front of you. Reclaim your constructive thoughts. These thoughts allow you learn and to grow forward from the experience and improve what is not working. They are much more useful to you than destructive ones.

How many thoughts do we have a day 60,000 to 80,000? Or who even knows what the exact number is, but we do know this. It is so much easier to complain about things that are not going right in our lives rather than give praise and gratitude towards the things that are.

Instead of complaining or making excuses of why things are not going the way we want them, some things never do, we should be asking ourselves, “What can I do about the things that I want to change? What can I learn from this change? What do I want to do to move and grow forward?”

Have you heard of the Serenity Prayer??

Don’t let the word “prayer” deter you from understanding the power behind this message. No matter your religion or non-religion background or views, this prayer/statement/affirmation is the key to making necessary changes in our lives.  The serenity prayer is this, “God/Universe grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things that I can and the wisdom to know the difference.”

I first saw this prayer/statement in Barnes & Noble’s 5 years ago during one of my most challenging times in my life. I talk about this moment in my upcoming talk: Be The Champion of Change at Get Inspired Talks on October 19th.

I was able to take that negative moment and turn it into a monumental building block of my life. You can do that as well. We can change things as we have the courage to reclaim our constructive and positive thoughts. Don’t let people put you into a corner or push you against the ropes and make you think otherwise. You have a brain, you have the ability to think, you have the ability to make your own decisions and you can decide how to move forward in your life and grow. Until then I encourage you to be that courageous creator in your life.

Join me on October 19th as I talk about not making excuses and Being A Champion of Change. This takes place at Get Inspired Talks in Vancouver B.C.
